Simon Glossop
Simon is a seasoned business leader and investor with over three decades of experience in finance and data. He is the CEO of Data Company One Inc, a Data/AI/Tech company that captures and derives information from waste, delivering novel solutions to users and clients.
Simon has a track record of creating, building, and exiting successful businesses across multiple continents, especially in emerging markets and alternative energy. He started his career as an investment banker, working in New York, London, and Tokyo, and leading global trading teams and managing assets. He has been involved in several start-ups, such as Credit Market Analysis Limited and Wolf & Badger, and has held numerous non-executive roles, including the Chairman of Octopus Investments EOC Committee, which oversees over £8.5 billion in funds in the UK. Simon holds a BSc Honours in Pure Maths with Economics from the University of London.
Currently he is also Chair of Richmond Rugby Foundation, a non-profit that promotes rugby for all ages in the Richmond area.
Carlos Palomares
Technology entrepreneur and founder of Group CS2. He has over 25 years of experience as an IT consultant, and software architect/developer in different areas, including imaging applications in LIDAR-based systems and Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning. He acted as a CTO and Lead system architect for different startups and has experience as a subcontractor on projects for NASA, NOAA, US-ARMY, US-NAVY, BNSF, Norfolk Southern, Kinder Morgan, and other large corporations.
Carlos holds a BS in Computer Science from University Nueva Esparta – Caracas Venezuela and MS in Management of Information Systems from University of Virginia.
Thomas Grinnan
Thomas, an MBA graduate, is a seasoned executive and consultant in the Sales and Marketing field, with a global perspective. He has primarily worked in the Drug Delivery, Pharmaceutical, and Packaging industries. Throughout his career, he has played a key role in developing products, markets, and businesses in both North America and Europe. His focus has been on new product development, acquiring new customers, and ensuring sustained growth. Thomas dedicated over 20 years to Westrock and its predecessor companies before joining Silgan Dispensing Systems in 2017. At Silgan Dispensing Systems, he served as the Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Healthcare, from 2018 to 2021. In 2021, he founded Axle Grease Project, a management and Go-To-Market consulting firm, to support clients in the Pharmaceutical, Packaging, and Drug Delivery sectors.
He is interested in sustainability, reducing carbon footprints, pharmaceutical patient adherence, child-resistant packaging, consumer preferences and trends, and drug delivery systems. He has published articles on topics such as child-resistant packaging, smart packaging, ophthalmic packaging, patient adherence, and packaging for patient adherence.
Thomas lives in Richmond with his wife, Marybeth.
Jason D. Bass
Experienced Corporate Finance and M&A executive. Over 28 years of experience advising companies through major corporate initiatives including capital raising, private placements, initial public offerings, debt financings, venture capital and restructurings. Executed hundreds of M&A transactions on behalf of clients. Jason is a Managing Director with Harris Williams and Group Co-Head of its Transportation and Logistics practice.
Jason is an investor in Data Company One and often advises chief executives, private equity investors, founders and entrepreneurs through periods of significant growth, market expansion and strategic repositioning. Jason earned a BS in Commerce with a concentration in Finance from the University of Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce.
Matt Marzillo
AI and ML Architect/Engineer. He has 10 years of experience in Data Science and Machine Learning roles both in consulting and with industry organizations. Matt has worked for companies such as Deloitte and Slalom as a Data Science Consultant and as an AI Architect and Engineer with Microsoft and Snowflake. Matt has experience developing and deploying AI and ML models across many different organizations in areas such as marketing, sales, operations, clinical and finance as well as advising in consultative roles.
Matt has an MS from Northwestern University in Predictive Analytics where he also holds an adjunct faculty position and a BS from the University of Illinois.
Clark Warthen
Clark's experience as a trusted corporate and securities attorney spans transaction types, industries, and company life stages. In his 10+ years of practice, he has represented Fortune 100 clients, top investment banks and private equity firms, as well as start-ups and non-profits. Clark has counseled clients through hundreds of capital markets transactions including IPOs, private placements, exchange and tender offers, high-yield and investment-grade bond offerings and related state and federal securities law matters. Clark also regularly advises on corporate and governance issues, ranging from board and C-suite administration to complex venture and private-equity backed structuring matters.
Clark is in-house counsel to a financial technology firm based in New York City. He began his career in the capital markets group at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP in New York after earning his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College.
Thomas Alfonso
DevOps, mobile APP and full stack developer. He has over 6 years of experience programming software using multiple languages and technologies. Thomas has been involved in many successful mobile and web applications that are in production. Thomas has worked extensively using Flutter, React, Django and AWS. Thomas has a BS in Computer Science from the Central University of Venezuela, where he specialized in human/computer interaction, data science, security and databases.
Crystal Morgan
Crystal Morgan completed her BA at the University of Virginia and MS in Organization Development and Knowledge Management at George Mason University. She has professional experience within the Human Resources/Talent Management field and is excited to bring her skills to the Data Company One team.
She is driven professional with experience working within and consulting for federal, state, private and nonprofit organizations. She has several years of systems analysis experience and a dynamic strength in analytical and data processes which she applied to the development and transformation of strategic planning efforts. As a human resources professional, she is interested in improving the human factors of organizations as a means for meeting and advancing strategic goals.
Crystal resides in Richmond with her husband and enjoys nature walks, dancing, arts & crafts, and serving as a notary public.
Justin Showalter
Justin is a disciplined, conscientious, and goal-oriented business development specialist with a passion for using data driven analytics as a catalyst for individual and organizational growth. He holds a BS in Psychology from James Madison University as well as graduate work in Industrial/Organizational Psychology where he focused on applied statistics and organizational development. He believes that understanding human behavior is foundational in forming business practices that foster success and advancement within the industry.
Justin has experience in hospitality, research, and analysis which he strategically applies to the data information sector. He has an extensive background within the sports industry, possessing two years of experience within professional baseball. Justin utilizes his knowledge and expertise to provide clients with the tools they need to efficiently and effectively reach their sustainability goals while cultivating the support and engagement of their respective communities.
Armando Rivas
Full Stack Developer, specialized in web applications. With more than 5 years of experience, I have participated in the creation and development of business solutions that improve the productivity of companies in Latin America, using technologies such as Python, ReactJS, Next.js, Node.js and Docker. My academic background in Software Engineering and UI/UX design from Universidad Central de Venezuela equips me to develop efficient applications with an excellent user experience.
Matthew Giovannetti
Matthew is a native of Richmond, Virginia and completed his BBA in Economics with a concentration in the political economy and a minor in Mathematics from James Madison University. With a background in hospitality, service, and education, he is excited to bring his unique perspective to Data Company One. He believes that data-driven solutions is the best way to improve operational efficiency.
Additionally, he is interested in reducing carbon footprints as well as other sustainability measures. In his free time, Matthew is a volunteer on the Commonwealth Catholic Charities Young Adult Professionals Panel and is an avid enjoyer of outdoor activities.
Nobel Shaji
Nobel is a highly skilled professional with advanced expertise in data integrity and content creation. With a Master’s in Decision Analytics from VCU, Richmond VA, an MBA in Business Analytics and a triple major degree in Economics, Media Studies and Political Science from Christ University, India, Nobel has a strong foundation in data management, analysis, and visualization. His proficiency in Python, SQL, and tools like Tableau and Knime allows him to ensure that datasets are meticulously cleansed, analyzed, and transformed into actionable insights for informed decision-making.
In addition to his technical prowess, Nobel brings a creative edge to content creation. He has a proven track record of developing compelling visual content, including digital presentations, graphics, and social media assets, utilizing platforms such as Canva, Figma, and PowerPoint. His unique ability to blend data-driven insights with creative design ensures that content is both engaging and effective.
